In an article from HI-AWARE published on thethirdpole.net, the authors highlight how the flood-resilient toilets being tested in north-western Bihar could make sanitation safe and secure for the many millions regularly affected by floods.
The floods near the Nepal-India border in August 2017 have had significant impact on local populations and sanitation. The eco-san toilets, piloted by HI-AWARE in Naya Tola Bishambharpur (NTB) in the West Champaran district of Bihar (India), have therefore been put to test. Live examples of toilets currently being used by households in the Kairi community in Paschim Champaran indicate a promising future for households in NTB and beyond.
