NEWS | Coordinating Across Consortia: CARIAA Working Groups

2018 started on a high note for CARIAA, with two of our cross-consortia working groups as well as two country engagement groups, meeting to coordinate activities and starting to synthesise some of the key emerging results from the program.

The Gender and Equity working group held a three-day research workshop on meta-synthesis of gender, social differentiation and inclusion in adaptation research and action. The primary idea was to synthesize some of the case studies developed over last few years, utilizing the QCA methodology. 23 case studies were analysed, and this resulted in four pathways identified to be pursued on how climate change affects gender equity and relations. A draft article is now being developed to showcase these pathways.

Back to back with the Gender meeting, the research-into-use (RiU) working group also met for three days, with the aim of learning from cross-consortia RiU activities as well as coordinating work for the final year of CARIAA. Success stories from each consortia were shared, and thematic break-out groups worked together to create synthesis outputs on the topics of migration and transformation. A coordinated RiU calendar for 2018 was developed to enhance the effectiveness of consortia and program-level engagements. The RiU leads also committed to, and made headway on, a paper synthesising learning about RiU across the program.

At the national level, our consortia have also been actively engaged through country working groups. Most recently, the India country engagement group hosted a workshop on migration in January in Kolkata – the first of its kind bringing together ASSAR, HI-AWARE and DECCMA. The workshop aimed towards synthesising the picture of migration across India as observed by the three CARIAA projects. In Bangladesh, DECCMA and HI-AWARE also jointly convened a stakeholder workshop in January to disseminate the preliminary research findings of the CARIAA Bangladesh projects to key government ministries.
